“SUMMER FUN” GROUP SHOW
JULY 10 - SEPTEMBER 15
Lynn Goldsmith Gallery is proud to present a photographic exhibition featuring a special collection of new mosaics and classic iconic images from rock and roll’s most legendary photographers, an assortment of Goldsmith’s humorous self-portrait series, “In the Looking Glass,” and a selection of comical animal portraits by John Lund. The show features a variety of images and photographic techniques that examine personal experience and identity, and invite us to consider the inherently lighthearted features of human nature.
SUMMER FUN will highlight Lynn Goldsmith’s Rock and Roll Mosaics, a new series of portraits by the celebrated photographer. Each large portrait is created by combining the thousands of images Goldsmith made during years of photographing rock legends like the Rolling Stones, Kiss and Bruce Springsteen. These new creations truly need to be seen to be believed. The show will also include portraits of rock’s most influential musicians by Goldsmith and renowned photographers including: Baron Wolman - RollingStone Magazine’s first chief photographer; Elliott Landy - official Woodstock photographer; Herb Greene - official photographer for The Grateful Dead; Gered Mankowitz - London’s first official Melody Maker photographer; Barry Feinstein - Bob Dylan’s official 1966 and 1974 World Tours photographer; Henry Diltz - official Woodstock and Monterey Pop Festival photographer; Daniel Kramer - famed folk rock icon photographer; Barrie Wentzell - exclusive chief photographer for Melody Maker, 1965-1975; Jim Marshall - the legendary gun-toting photographer; and Laura Levine - photographer for a new generation of rock icons. Together they have captured all of the greats: The Beatles, Joplin, Hendrix, The Doors, The Stones, The Dead, Dylan, Springsteen, and more.
In addition to this amazing collection of rock’s greatest, SUMMER FUN will show new work from Goldsmith’s amusing and engaging series of idealized self portraits, “In the Looking Glass.” Through a composite of images, her photographs of New York City store windows are manifested into scenes where she plays the starring role in an investigation of how identity is constructed.
To top off the SUMMER FUN, the show will feature a selection of color work by John Lund from his famed humorous collection “Animal Antics.” Lund, a pioneer in digital photography, literally lets the cat out of the bag with his series depicting what animals do when humans aren’t looking: play poker, meditate, swim and dance. They’re having a ball! And you will too.
This exhibition presents a collection of photographs that invite us to explore the raw energy of rock and roll, to ask ourselves “What is real, what is true?”, and to enjoy the simple pleasure of imagination.
Photography is available upon request for publication in regards to press for this event.
